Main Activities Developed As Language Assistant

      What were the main activities that I developed as a Language Assistant?

      This year there were several different activities that I conducted depending on the classes, school subjects, different language levels and behaviors of the students. In several of the classes, I helped to lead text readings, guiding popcorn readings from a particular book (for example A Christmas Carol and All About Ireland from Blackcat Publishers) and comprehension check questions and cultural information. I did this in 3ºA, 4ºA and 4ºB. In some of my classes we would have small group conversations. I would take about 4 students out of the class and we would have conversations about different topics, especially concerning their experience learning language, their opinions on language learning and English-language culture.

      In other classes I would also prepare different powerpoint presentations on curriculum related topics, such as a specific movement of music like Music in the Renaissance or Soundtracks in Film in my Music class, or on cultural themes, like presentations on how Thanksgiving is celebrated in the United States or how Christmas is celebrated in different countries. In my Physical Education classes, I would usually help to introduce whatever unit we would do in the "theory" portion and then help to reinforce the target vocabulary over course of the semester. Especially with my Phys.Ed. classes, because I have six classes of the same ages, I was able to really get my lessons down pat. Firstly, the professor would model the lesson I would teach, whether going over a presentation on their Final Project instructions on Organized Sports Competitions, basic pointers for the long distance run between 21-33 minutes or a brainstorm of basketball vocabulary, and I would repeat the lesson, modifying as needed and based on the class input.
